How to use the tools?

At Function Space, we strive to enhance your learning experience by designing and developing new tools for learning science. Here is a list of existing tools we offer:

  • Subject tags and preference levels: You can select preferences (various subjects in Math, Computer Science and Physics) and levels (basic, intermediate and advanced) at the beginning on Function Space. You can always changes your preferences later.
  • Search engines: You can browse through thousands of discussions, opinions, books, video lectures and everything else on the platform in just one click. Go to search box and type in the keyword you want to search. You can see results in a separate page by clicking on 'See more' option.
  • Mention peers: You can reach out to other users by mentioning their Function Space username (preceded by the @ sign) in your conversations.
  • Equation editor: Science, especially physics and math is not complete without equations and the ocean of signs and symbols. For this, there is a real time equation editor in LaTex. Click on the link “Visual equation editor” and paste the LaTex code in your opinion. You can use the LaTeX from the editor on Function Space by putting it between '$' signs. Please see "How to render LaTeX equation?" for more details.
  • Equation caller: While writing a known equation, instead of writing the entire equation, just type “: equation name” and the equation caller will give you the entire equation. All this will be done without any line of code.

  • Diagramming tool: In built Diagramming tool for making diagrams, flow charts and networking models.
  • Markdown formatting
    • Render LaTeX equation: Put your LaTeX code between '$' sign and see the live preview of the equation on right side of the screen (See the example below). For getting LaTeX code, see Equation editor and Equation Caller.
    • Image posting: You will need to upload your picture on one of the free image hosting websites. Click on ‘Image’ button on the tool bar and paste pic's hyperlink in the toolbar. Maintain the appropriate image size (preferred 600 x 300) for better readability.
    • Hyperlink posting: Insert links in your opinions, discussions and articles by selecting the word you want to back link, paste the link URL by clicking on the ‘insert link’ symbol on the tool bar or ‘Ctrl L.’
